You
may be wondering what happened to World Cinema Review. Well, abuse
of corporate power by the Bravo Channel is what happened. They own
a registered servicemark in the phrase "world cinema" and claimed we were
infringing that, even though their registration says the mark is for "television
programming services." Since I can't even pay writers, there's no way to
fight Bravo and so a quick name change occurred. I'd feel better
about this if Bravo's commitment to world cinema wasn't so half-hearted;
for an example of genuine dedication to both the cinema and our culture
check out the programming at the Canadian
Bravo.
As for FAFR, I'll still push beyond what Spielberg, Miramax and the re-written
press releases that constitute most film reviewing think should be the
boundaries of our interest.
